DANCING ON THE PLATEAU
There’s that saying,
“I’ve hit a plateau.”
But nothing’s too great for God.
That's the Truth we need to know.
Have you ever reached a place you felt stuck?
Like you were growing and improving on something or even a dream or goal was unfolding and then it came to what “seemed” like a standstill?
I know that feeling and situation in more ways than one. But today let’s focus on how it relates to my son’s allergies.
If you know us, you know his testimony. He had 21 as an infant and then around the age of four or five, it went down to 3! Now, at the age of eight…
We are still at 3!
At our appointment this month, his allergist who we love told us what the data and blood showed for the past 3 years, “TJ’s allergies seem to have ‘hit that plateau.’”
Wait, that couldn’t be right…
We are praying and believing for a shift.
And yet, we know what the numbers show. It’s easy to see those numbers as facts because they are what are before us in plain sight. Still… there is more because there is God! BUT GOD…
To the world, it may seem like we are stuck standing still but we are not of this world. We are passing through this world. Our home is in Heaven and that is a supernatural world. Therefore, we believed in the supernatural here on earth. Lord, we want to see Heaven here. And that is what we are standing on today and every day.
It is also why I’m over here dancing on this plateau.
Let me explain by starting with scripture.
“Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.” (Matthew 10:1 NIV)
Jesus went onto tell his disciples that they would be able to do even greater things than what they had seen.
“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” (John 14:12 NIV)
It is when we walk aligned with God, praying and believing while also listening and obeying to the prompts of the Holy Spirit that: the miraculous happens.
The supernatural meets us here.
Still, words and situations are defined by the world too. In fact, according to National Geographic.org, “a plateau is a flat, elevated landform that rises sharply above the surrounding area on at least one side.”
That means flat, and for us, it means no more trending down of eggs and dairy in the blood work numbers. I saw the results. I know the numbers and I remember them telling me that “TJ would more than likely outgrow eggs and dairy by the age of 8.”
My son is 8.5.
And that prediction has not come true.
We still have hope though. Because our Hope is no longer in those numbers and trends but it is in our God and what He can do in a moment.
Cross Jami once said, “For the case that one thinks he has plateaued in life, God has already set yet another peak for him to reach: and a much more challenging peak than his own, one that which is to serve others.”
And while that inspires me to keep going and keep climbing, I still can’t help but to think of this very plateau we stand on now.
Of course I don’t want to stay there. So honestly, my first thoughts were who do I bring him to see? What doctor is close who can help his body overcome these allergies? There has to be a therapy or doctor to guide us to heal his system past this.
But unlike years ago, even amidst those emotions and thoughts, my first reaction and step of action is to pray. It was to get on my hands and knees with my husband and pray bold prayers of deliverance and restoration.
And while we are there, we must use this time to seek rest in even this space. It is when I read this verse,
“Give me the wisdom and knowledge to lead them properly, for who could possibly govern this great people of yours?” (2 Chronicles 1:10 NLT)
Give us wisdom.
Give us knowledge.
And I felt so strongly on my heart, there is purpose on the plateau. There is purpose at every part of the process from the mountains to the valleys to the very plateaus. Therefore, it is really about my perspective.
When we see a mountain, let’s see an opportunity to climb and to build our strength, leaning on God’s strength.
When we see a valley, let’s see a chance to look up at the Lord to guide and provide. Let’s learn that very action of looking up and lifting up.
So why do we, why do I, grow frustrated when I stand on the plateaus?
For perspective I pray…
to remember that the Lord is right there. I ask Him humbly and boldly, What do you want us to do here?
And I hear, Rest.
I hear…
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:19 NIV)
So now when we see a plateau, let’s see an opportunity to rest and regroup, a place to refocus and to realign.
A place to rest and trust in the Lord.
A place where He provides a safe landing to stand on.
Safety
Protection
Wisdom
Strength
Knowledge
Rest
He is preparing us for more, abundantly more right here and right now. So I am grateful even here as we wait in anticipation of the supernatural miracles God will unfold.
The Art of a Messy House challenge for this week is to reflect. Where are you right now: on a high mountaintop, in a low valley or on such a plateau? Wherever it is, pray for wisdom and knowledge. Pray for the supernatural to happen. If there is any disbelief in your heart and mind, ask God to help you with it. There is nothing too great for the Lord. The Lord is greater. Declare that today.
For that is why I am here dancing on this plateau.
“for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
(Philippians 2:13 NIV)
“Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
(Matthew 19:26 NIV)
Dear God,
You hold all wisdom and all strength. Lord, like Solomon, give me the wisdom and knowledge to do what You have called me to do. I pray for the supernatural to happen. I pray for food allergies in our family and in others to be healed in Jesus’ name. I pray for cancer and sicknesses that loved ones are battling to crumble at the sound of Your mighty name. Jesus. If there is any disbelief in my heart and mind, I lift it God. Help me with my disbelief. There is nothing too great for You Lord. You are greater. I declare that today and every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
