#43: Audience of One with guest Megan Hall

November 13th, 2023 by Jen Kosuda

Episode Description

Do you desire to seek God as your audience and put Jesus first in every aspect of your life? What does it mean to have an audience of one, and how should we combat the pull of the world's expectations? This is exactly what we are diving into in this episode with my friend, Megan.

Megan Hall is a child of God, wife, homeschool mom, and former teacher. She believes that salvation can be found in Christ alone; her primary role as a mother is to disciple her children, and God heals and restores. In 2019, Megan went through a health struggle, but through it all, she discovered the importance of making God her focal point.

I love Megan's story of making her faith her own and the concept of having an audience of 1 - God Himself. It's easy to get caught up in worldly distractions and the pull of outside influences, especially in today's digital age. However, Megan encourages us to realign our focus and seek God first. By memorizing and speaking scripture, repenting when needed, and prioritizing prayer, we can combat the worldly pulls and keep our eyes fixed on Him. If you've ever wondered how to focus on God amidst the world's distractions, this episode is for you.

Just some reasons to listen to the entire episode:

  • Hear Megan's journey with health struggles

  • Learn more of Megan's join on surrendering her life to the Lord in college

  • Discuss the concept of having God as the audience

  • Align actions with faith not seeking approval from people

  • Gain strategies to combat worldly pulls, like scripture memorization and prayer

  • Be encouraged how repenting and praying in moments of struggle or chaos can really help us

As we navigate the distractions and pressures of the world, Megan's wisdom and vulnerability inspire us to make God our audience of one. By embracing His guidance, speaking His Word, and cultivating a supportive community, we can confidently navigate the pull of worldly focus and seek to glorify God above all else in our lives.

How do you battle the worldly pulls and stay grounded in your purpose? Do you practice scripture memorization? What helps you make God your audience of 1? I'd love for you to share with us on social media - all our links are below!

#41: What am I Carrying that I'm Not Meant to Carry?

November 4th, 2023 by Jen Kosuda

Episode Description

*Trigger warning: A near-drowning incident is spoken about during this episode**

Do you struggle with fear and uncertainty? May you long for a greater understanding of God's purpose in your life. In this episode, I'm discussing the concept of idols and avoidance and how they can hinder our progress and prevent us from fulfilling our purpose as intended by God.

I reflect on how avoidance played a significant role in my life. I found it easier to avoid pursuing my gifts and talents out of fear of rejection. This episode is for you if you've ever doubted yourself, compared your journey to others, or felt the need to control every aspect of your life.

Just some reasons to listen to the entire episode:

  • Be reminded that we all have purpose, gifts, and talents but may face the fear of rejection.

  • Hear about overcoming fear and building trust with a swimming lesson

  • Explore how avoidance is not the same as self-care and celebration.

  • Discuss how idols and avoidance hinder growth

  • Hear a testimony of when I became an unexpected hero

  • Be empowered to obey prompts, live an abundant life, and pray for obedience, presence, patience, and the courage to let go of what is not good.

And so much more!

Idols can take many forms in our lives. They can be anything that we put before God, anything that consumes our thoughts, time, and energy. For me, drinking became an idol because it hindered my relationship with God and prevented me from fully embracing my purpose.

Avoidance is another obstacle to growth. I avoided addressing drinking because I wanted to have the option to continue. I was afraid to surrender it to the Lord because it meant giving up control. But God does not force us to change; He guides us and gives us the choice to surrender our idols and avoidances. And what a loving Father He is!

We never know what God is doing behind the scenes and what each step will bring. In the waiting, we not only grow, but we can also learn to lean on the Lord more. #27: Who We Needed When We Were Young (Part 2)

July 24th, 2023 by Jen Kosuda

Episode Description

In this episode, the discussion of becoming better or bitter continues. It dives deeper into that quote from episode 26. “Be who you needed when you were young.”  It is not meant to stir any drama from the past but instead, it is lovingly meant to help us gain perspective, and heal. We all make mistakes. We all fall down. However, how we react to the mistakes and even the disappointments in life matter. We can either hold the pain of the past and grow bitter or even complacent. Or, we can give it to God and allow Him to lift us up. We can use it to help others and to make the world a better place. Feelings can be fickle; therefore, we need to be careful to stay focused on God and His Word, and not change it to fit our feelings. While there are a lot of amazing opportunities out there, not all of them are meant for us or for the season we are in. Through it all, there is purpose. We have purpose right where we find ourselves. And those wishes of what we needed when we were young… can truly become part of it. But how? But God. And that is the topic of this week’s episode. He provides and even fills in the gaps so let’s be honest with Him. For God doesn’t promise it will be easy, but He promises to be by our sides through it all. God has a unique identity for all of us that we can walk in no matter where we are today. Let’s be who God created us to be, while fostering youth to do the same. #24: Have the Conversation, Say the Prayer with Delphine Kirkland

July 3rd, 2023 by Jen Kosuda

Episode Description

You know those “elephants in the room” or worse yet, ever experience them? In this episode, we not only talk about them, we crush them, along with the seeds of doubt, confusion or whatever is not good. Because like John 10:10 reminds us, while the enemy “comes only to steal and kill and destroy; Jesus came so that we may have life and have it to the full.” Still, our faith journey will not be easy and at times the enemy may even try to cause confusion and division with seeds of fear or even that very doubt. BUT GOD. He is our Provider. He can turn those moments into blessings. In a world full of division, let’s be people who pause and ask God to guide us to have the conversation. God will lead like He did in the many real-life examples we discuss in this episode. We must not entertain the seed of lies. Instead, hear practical ways to unite together to pluck them out and let God do the planting and growing instead. Because what the enemy meant for harm, God can use for good. We often do not know the impact that a prompt, conversation, word or even prayer will have. However, may we be obedient in doing them and open to receiving all God is providing in and through them. While the episode starts with discussing how to address such circumstances, it ends with Delphine sharing part of her powerful testimony and how God used a time of waiting to teach so many powerful lessons that you will not want to miss. So I hope you’ll join us in this episode, and be encouraged to have the conversation and say the prayer... trusting that God is Healer.

#21: Beauty is in the Lifting, Not the Competing: Fighting Against Comparison and Jealousy (Part 2)

June 12th, 2023 by Jen Kosuda

Episode Description

If we are not careful, it can be easy to fall into the traps and lies of comparison and competition. Even if we don’t see it or if it is not done consciously, we live in a world that encourages competition, the race against time, the “if you don’t, someone will beat you to it.” BUT GOD. He created each of us with a distinct and uniquely beautiful purpose. Therefore, we never need to compete for someone else’s or even compare ours to another when we have our own. It is unique. It is beautiful. It is God-given. Let’s walk in it as we encourage others to do the same. “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:11‬).

♡ Also, check out Episode #20 where I started to discuss this topic, providing practical ways to fight against comparison and jealousy. The link is below too. (BEAUTY IS IN THE LIFTING, NOT THE COMPETING (PART 1)

#4: Taking the First Step: Pray-stepping with God Even When Called Out of Our Comfort Zones

March 23, 2023 by Jen Kosuda

Episode Description

Why is it that often the first step is the hardest? I mean on so many levels it is the most challenging because it’s unknown territory. New territories can feel intimidating, uncomfortable, and even confusing. As a teacher, I find that many battle writing that beginning thesis, or piecing together the delicate balance of an introduction, unsure of how the start will lead to the end. I feel the same way about new endeavors, waters and situations because they can get overwhelming and can start to block us from taking the next step. I pray this episode helps us not get stuck or blocked but instead encourages us to pray and step in God’s strength.
