Worry-Free Wednesdays: The Roads That Have Yet to Appear

This Wednesday we start with a classic…

_Hope if everybody runs, you'' choose to stay...(1)

It is amazing to me how many times in life we are faced with this decision.

  • The first part of this poem is an excerpt from something I wrote at the age of 15 during my struggle with an eating disorder, depression, and anxiety when I felt like I had messed up everything.
  • As almost 20 years have passed since I wrote those initial words, I have added a new ending of hope.

Between Today & Tomorrow

“How can I choose between today and tomorrow,

And pick just one road to follow.

For I have so much trust invested in today,

Yet so much interest in what tomorrow has to say.

Here or there,

It all just seems so unfair.

I can’t decide between today and tomorrow,

Nor pick what road to follow.

Today is always here,

While tomorrow has many uncertainties to fear.

Yesterday must be remembered but pushed aside,

To make way for what tomorrow may decide.

But wait,

For I feel it might be already too late!

For here I still stand,

Kneeling as drops fill my hand.

Leaving me in the tears of my own mist,

As the roads both now cease to exist.

Still waiting for that perfect day to decide,

Which tide to choose to ride.

Should I wait it out a little more,

Or push it aside and continue to ignore.

For I stood and cried,

But still choose to pretend it didn’t hurt inside.

For here I stand,

Living as though the choice I never made,

Hasn’t just allowed both to fade….”

New ending with a necessary twist of hope …

“No matter the struggle or valley so low,

Something always making me hang on in tow.

Humoring the idea of giving up for second or even two,

Running seemed like the option I wanted but could not do.

Therefore, I stood and prayed to be led,

Knowing that walking alone was not how any of us were bred.

Holding on to promises and dreams,

For tomorrow holds new beginnings despite what today’s pain seems.

Initially stubborn and needed to prove the world wrong,

Soon faith turned that into a new song.

The paths never fade,

Instead it was I who strayed.

Eyes opened to new paths ahead,

Faith dismissed fear and led.

New focus grown in faith and hope for tomorrow,

Erased my once never-ending sorrow.

Walking now on new paths despite the bumps and miles,

Once again allowing perfect imperfections to galvanize infinite smiles.

Sometimes, the right path has not appeared in sight yet. Patience is key. The easiest or most popular path is not typically the one that will led you to where you belong, where you can prosper.   Instead, follow your heart and those dreams that only faith can bring to life.   Prayer with belief is powerful and opens endless possibilities on a new path where we continue to learn step by step…smile by smile…
